BIBLE READING: Luke 5:4-7
Luke 5:4 Now when he had left speaking, he said unto Simon, Launch out into the deep, and let down your nets for a draught.
Luke 5:5 And Simon answering said unto him, Master, we have toiled all the night, and have taken nothing: nevertheless at thy word I will let down the net.
Luke 5:6 And when they had this done, they inclosed a great multitude of fishes: and their net brake.
Luke 5:7 And they beckoned unto their partners, which were in the other ship, that they should come and help them. And they came, and filled both the ships, so that they began to sink.
MESSAGE
Obedience brings blessings. Obeying God’s word brings unimaginable blessings.
When Peter, who had fished all night and caught nothing, obeyed the word of God and let down his net, he caught so many fish within a few minutes.
When one obeys God’s word, it always ends in a testimony. Isaac obeyed God and sowed in Gerar and reaped a hundredfold (Genesis 26:12).
On the other hand, disobeying God’s word leads to sorrow and regrets. Imagine if Peter had not obeyed Jesus, he would have gone home feeling dejected and with nothing to show for fishing throughout the night.
“At Thy word” means “Because God is the One that said it, I’ll obey.”
If you are facing one challenge or the other, pray to God and do whatever He asks you to do. When Naaman, the commander of the host of the Syrian army, came to Elisha, God said he should go and wash in river Jordan seven times to get rid of his leprosy. Thank God he obeyed. Therefore, he went home a happy man with no trace of leprosy (2 Kings 5:10-14).
God expects His children to always trust Him and obey His word. The word of God is powerful and can’t fail. God says, “My word… shall not return void, but shall accomplish what I please” (Isaiah 55:11).
Jeremiah 1:12 says, “God watches over His words to perform them.”
The psalmist says, “I rejoice at thy word, as one that findeth great spoil” (Psalm 119:162).
Beloved, are you a child of God? Do you obey His word and keep His commandments?
The Bible says obedience is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel 15:22). If you have been disobeying God, repent today for your own good. Learn to obey every word of God and it shall be well with you.
